Dallas, TX
Acquired October 1998

What began as a modest investment  in a door company providing pre-hung interior doors to the repair and remodeling industry, Atrium was built through seventeen acquisitions to become one of the largest designers and manufacturers of residential vinyl and aluminum windows and patio doors in North America.

The strategy in building Atrium was to capitalize on the importance of local/regional offerings, sales and service, but to do so within a corporate structure that could access economies of scale and the competitive advantage of vertical integration. Through both a strategic acquisition strategy and significant investment in organic growth, Atrium built a national footprint with the ability to provide windows manufactured with all types of material (e.g. wood, vinyl and aluminum), products that were designed to serve both the new home construction and repair and remodeling markets, and programs designed to meet the needs of numerous distribution channels, including big box retailers, specialty window companies, regional and national builders (direct), and installers.

By dramatically expanding the company's manufacturing capabilities, Atrium was designed to excel as a company regardless of any particular economic swings or trends in a given market. Vertically integrating its operations to include vinyl and aluminum extrusion plants, die cast manufacturing operations, and installation service companies, to name a few, Atrium provided construction materials at pricing unavailable to its competition.
